In view of the large number of lots in this auction and the possibility of difficult weather conditions at this time of year the start time of the sale has been brought forward to 9.30am.

The silver section which starts the sale consists of over 70 lots from the Georgian, Victorian and later periods. As expected with the continuing high bullion price of silver it is the larger, heavier pieces, which carry the highest estimate. An Edwardian 83ozs tray with a presentation inscription relating to Abercynon Colliery is expected to make £1200-£1800. Two four-piece tea sets, each well over 50ozs, are estimated at £700-£900 per lot, and an unusual picnic teapot designed by Dr Christopher Dresser 1879 £300-£400. An Irish sauce boat, brought back from a recent charity valuation event held by Dee Atkinson & Harrison near Belfast, hallmarked Dublin 1879 should achieve £250-£300. Amongst the smaller items is a private collection of thirty vesta cases, sold in lots of three and estimated at £50-£80 per lot.

There are over 50 lots of jewellery and watches, always a popular section in the run up to Christmas, consisting of rings, bracelets, necklaces and earrings including a large quantity from a deceased estate in Hull, only recently discovered having been locked away in a bank vault for many years. There are antique and modern examples with estimates to suit every pocket from £30 to £4,000. This section also includes a good quantity of wrist and pocket watches by Rolex, Omega, etc, but perhaps the most interesting time piece is a 14ct gold full hunting cased quarter repeater chronograph pocket watch estimated at £800-£1200.

Old metalware provides a larger than usual 42 lot section thanks to an interesting collection of Eastern items from a deceased estate in Bridlington. Various figures, vases, bowls, dishes and plaques from Egypt to the Far East proved a challenging task when cataloguing and carry estimates from £30 to £200. Amongst the more unusual items are an opium pipe and a spittoon!

The miscellaneous section consists of 48 lots of collectors items including various Victorian and later boxes, calling card cases, face screens, cork screws, Gnomeman carvings, twelve crystoleums, taxidermy, theodolite and microscope. A particularly intriguing item is an Arts and Crafts style copper kaleidoscope of triangular form with unusual revolving cylinder action, estimated at £70 to £100. By far the highest estimated item in this section is lot 333 a collection of forty French unbound watercolour vignettes for La Chanson Des Mois 1904 at £500-£700.

A small textiles section contains samplers and a wool work picture, a bear skin rug complete with full head at £200-£300 and a pair of Turkish embroidered leather slippers at £70-£100.

The ceramics include a private collection of 19th Century Mettlach pottery plaques, vases and steins with estimates from £70 to £400. There is also a pair of Fielding and Co wall plaques at £700-£900, a sixty piece Foley China Queen Victoria 1897 jubilee tea set at £200-£300 and a Belleek first period lighthouse vase also brought back from the Belfast valuation event at £300-£400. Early English pottery includes pot lids, tiles, Prattware, Parian ware, Toby jugs, etc and there are a number of lots of Chinese and Japanese ceramics.

More modern ceramics include Moorcroft, Wemyss, Herend, Dresden, Clarice Cliff etc, a massive Royal Doulton punch bowl £100-£150 and an impressive pair of Japanese double gourd shaped table lamps 32" high at £200-£300.

An additional specialist section in this sale is for a private collection of nodding head figures comprising 16 lots in various mediums including a very rare bisque group of the Romanov family expected to make £2500-£3000 and a set of four composition figures of The Beatles at £800-£1000.

The glassware includes a collection of over one hundred 18th, 19th and 20th Century drinking glasses in lots of four to eleven. Art glass also features prominently with examples by Daum, Strathearn, Sommerso, Orrefors, Steuben, Okra, Lassi, etc.

A small objects d'art section contains two pairs of carved ivory figures at £250-£300 per lot and an unusual carved coquilla nut snuff box at £80-£120. Various Eastern bronze or brass figures of deities are expected to realise £60-£90 each.

There are 23 lots in the clocks and instruments section including six longcase clocks, Vienna style wall clocks, mantel clocks, wall and pocket barometers, a 19th Century table top musical box and an interesting continental pocket musical box.

Furniture provides over 80 lots from the Georgian, Victorian and later periods including early oak dressers, gate leg and refectory dining tables and coffers, 19th Century dining tables, sideboards and occasional furniture, an unusual Regency rosewood fire screen/reading table and six drawer Wellington chest, a set of ten Victorian library chairs, dining chairs, Windsor chairs, salon suites and occasional chairs. There are also two cabinet made oak dining suites by Alan "Acornman" Grainger of Brandsby, one with seven chairs the other with four.

Paintings by local artists continue to dominate the pictures section with the last lot of the day, a maritime oil painting by Henry Redmore entitled "Whitby High Lights" expected to realise £5000-£6000. A self portrait by Frederick William Elwell, estimated at £2000-£3000 has already attracted a lot of presale interest and two other pictures by the same artist depict a French landscape £800-£1200 and a still life study £1500-£2000. Walter Goodin, Reuben Chappell, E K Redmore, Jack Rigg and Tom Harland also feature in the sale as does William Settle and David Bell in the watercolours.
